President High fights hunger

Learners at President High join the fight against hunger

PRESIDENT High School learners and Stop Hunger Now SA joined hands and quickly exceeded their target, when preparing food packages to help fight global hunger on Friday, October 28.

Within a few hours, the learners had already surpassed their target of 10 000 food packages – which are distributed across various Early Childhood Development (ECD) centres in the province by the organisation. Each pack prepared by the hands of the President High School learners can feed a family of two adults and two children, or ten children or six adults.

Nadia Reddy from Stop Hunger Now SA, was very proud to be working with learners and staff – as President High School is the first school in the South to take part in the outreach programme, initiated to help eradicate global hunger by 2030.

“There are a lot of children who go to bed with an empty stomach each night in today’s world, but we as Stop Hunger Now SA will never stop in our fight against global hunger – for as long as there’s even one hungry child in the world. Speaking to you now, there’s another school in Benoni that’s helping prepare these food packages and that makes us proud, to see children able to do something for other children,” said Nadia.

Stop Hunger Now SA was established in the United States of America and is now an international organisation that co-ordinates the distribution of food and other life-saving aid worldwide. They now have three branches in South Africa: Johannesburg, KwaZulu Natal and Cape Town.

“We as staff and learners are very happy to be part of this initiative. This has been an amazing day because by just 9:45, we had already exceeded our target of 10 000 food packages by at least 584. We also challenge our friendly rivals, such as Sir Johan Adamson High School and Mondeor High School, to participate in this initiative,” said a joyful Melissa Erasmus.
