Community members clean-up Bellavista

Southerners clean-up their community in the spirit of togetherness.

BELLAVISTA residents once again joined forces with various invested parties and DA ward councillors to clean-up their community, on Saturday, October 15.

The clean-up was part of the SOJO Fifth Annual KUBiC Spring Clean Day in conjunction with City of Joburg departments, businesses, residents and various interested parties who all came out to help clean litter along Klipriver Drive and inside the Bellavista community.

There were approximately 120 people altogether and everyone rolled up their sleeves to help improve the visual conditions of the main arterial road which links the north to the south.

Klipriver Drive is not only travelled by locals who commute to work daily but is also used by visitors who come to explore the rich history, taste a variety of different foods, be entertained and even get married in one of the many beautiful South of Joburg surroundings.

The clean-up is aimed at improving the living conditions of residents who live in council-owned apartments but struggle to get the responsible departments to assist with maintenance.

An inspection of the area proved that there are many utility problems, as well as social and economic problems ranging from overgrown grass, litter dumped around skip bins, blocked sewerage drains, insufficient refuse disposal, damaged playgrounds, damaged boundary walls, stolen palisade fencing, drug abuse and unemployment.

SOJO thanked key role players for their commitment: Thaba Eco Hotel, Pam Golding, Aspen Hills, ward councillors Rashieda Landis and Michael Crichton, Miss Earth finalist Jeanine Keet, Regional Scouts, PIKITUP, Environmental Health, EMS, retired ward councillor Dennis Jane, SOJO staff, residents of Bellavista, resident block leaders and their champion, Louise Human.
