Truck causes accident

Fortunately the woman was unhurt, although visibly shaken. She had to climb out of the car through the passenger door.

A TRUCK travelling down the Comaro off-ramp from the N12 highway, hit a car and caused a huge backlog of traffic in all directions, on Friday, October 14.

The accident occurred at about 16:20 when the truck driver reportedly took the turning lane going right, too wide. The woman who was driving the car was also turning right from the inside lane and as she turned the truck hit her.

Fortunately the woman was unhurt, although visibly shaken. She had to climb out of the car through the passenger door.

The truck driver refused to hand over his driving licence to the woman driver and stood to the side of the accident waiting until a representative from his truck company arrived on the scene, over an hour after the accident. The intersection remained partially blocked for nearly two hours with irritated drivers from all directions losing their tempers as long queues formed. “I’ve been stuck in traffic coming from Rosettenville for about 45 minutes. It would have been far quicker walking,” said an angry driver.

Both sides of the N12 Comaro off-ramps saw traffic backed up, causing a danger to other highway users.

EMS vehicles arrived on the scene within 10 minutes and Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) officers attended the accident scene.
