Domestic worker detained for house robbery

During the investigation, Mondeor Crime Prevention members were led back to the domestic worker.

ON Tuesday, October 11, there was a reported house robbery in Alverda Park in Mondeor where a domestic worker was pushed into a bedroom by two males. The men allegedly tied her up and proceeded to the main bedroom where they stole money and left.

When the police arrived on the scene, the domestic worker told them she was in the house when the men entered and pointed a firearm at her.

“According to the domestic worker, they asked her where the money was and pushed her to the bedroom and tied her up using a small rope,” said Mondeor SAPS communication officer Captain Nokulunga Dube.

During the investigation into the case, the Mondeor Crime Prevention Unit members were led back to the domestic worker, who they believed was a suspect. She confessed that she knew where the suspect lived and who it was, confirming that there was only one male involved.

Together with her employer, the domestic worker took the police to the house where the suspect was.

The suspect was found wearing the wristwatch that was identified by the domestic worker’s employer as her watch.

The suspect pointed out to the police where the money was hidden in a shack in Tshepisong, Krugersdorp. Both the suspect and domestic worker are Mozambique nationals, and are being detained in Mondeor police cells. They will appear in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court, and are being charged with house robbery and defeating the ends of justice.

The acting station commander, Lieutenant Colonel Moodley, would like to commend the Crime Prevention Unit members for their dedication and hard work in ensuring that the suspects were arrested and would like to appeal to the employers of domestic workers to encourage them to join the domestic watch programmes in each sector in the Mondeor policing area.
