Engen Champ of Champions title holder to be crowned.

THE Engen Champ of Champs will be seeking a new holder of the title as Ajax Football club didn’t make it through to the 2016 finals.

Engen Champ of Champions finals will be held from Friday, October 7 to Sunday, October 9 at the University of Pretoria High Performance fields.

The six u.17 teams who were their respective winners of the five regions and the host SuperSport United FC team will do battle in order to decide who will be the new title-holder. The other clubs u.17 teams are: Orlando Pirates from the South and winners of the Gauteng region; Old Mutual FC from the Cape, who ousted Ajax FC; Roo Stars from the Free State region; the Umqhele High School from KwaZulu-Natal; and Chippa United FC from the Port Elizabeth region.

The finals of the tournament will be played on Sunday. The tournament will commence on Friday with Roo Stars and Old Mutual opening the event. The tournament will be played in a round robin format and the four teams with the most points scored will play in the semi-finals.

Widely regarded as one of the most prestigious u.17 football tournaments in the country, the Engen Knockout Challenge, which culminates in the Engen Champ of Champions tournament, has since its inception back in 2003 been a valuable stepping stone for over 100 players who have gone on to play professionally both locally and abroad.

Seasoned stars such as Thulani Serero, Daine Klaite, Jody February, Rowen Williams, George Maluleka, Cole Alexander and Denwin Farmer all graced the Engen Knockout Challenge before going on to establish themselves at pro level.

The 2015 event was particularly fruitful with 11 players who featured in the tournament representing South Africa at the 2015 u.20 FIFA World Cup in Chile.
