Cyclists ride 4 500km for Ethemba Village

Wendell Bole, his team and the Alberton High School mountain biking team were all set for the opening leg of his epic 4500km charity ride for Ethemba Village in Walkerville.

THE atmosphere literally crackled with hope and anticipation on Sunday morning, September 11, at the Thaba Trails in Mulbarton.

Wendell Bole, his team and the Alberton High School mountain biking team were all set for the opening leg of his epic 4 500km charity ride for Ethemba Village ,in Walkerville.

Both Wendell and the school hope to raise funds to build houses for orphans and widows. Each kilometre symbolizes a brick and 4 500 bricks are needed to complete this project successfully. Each block brick will cost R10 to sponsor.

The whole team left just after 08:00 and rode an amazing 64km to the Vaal Mall by midday. They crossed paths several times with the Road to Victory Race route and had quite a few enthusiastic parents and school representatives trailing their progress in convoy-style.

Alberton High School’s sport co-ordinator, Francois Swanepoel, and the principal, FULL NAME??? Olivier, were also among the supporters of the charity ride.

The team spirit and comradeship was contagious and everyone was in high spirits.

Bole is an accomplished cyclist and started his cycling career in 1989. He has represented South Africa in 12 World Championships throughout his career and is now dedicating his time to charity, through the John 3:16 Ministries. He is the creator of Thaba Trails and the co-founder of the quaint Bush Church, which graces the entrance to Thaba Trails.

Ethemba Village will not only strive to build 10 houses for orphans and widows, but it also envisions a self-sufficient, subsistence-based way of life, teaching green thinking and helping to reduce our carbon footprint on the landscape.

Dr Michele Sutherland, a senior pastor in the Hope of Jesus Ministry, helped birth the Ethemba Village concept.

Through Bole’s 4 500km charity ride around South Africa, which includes Namaqualand and the beautiful daisies, the team hopes to raise awareness and funds for the charity and will take a total of 35 days to complete their journey, ending at Thaba Trails, on October 15.

Ethemba Village and Alberton High School are endeavouring to help to build this village 1km at a time, one brick at a time.

Ethemba Village’s motto is ”Turning hurt into heroes” and ”Love never dies”, so please support this worthy cause through donations, by either emailing to ethembavillage@gmail.com, or calling 082 800 0981 or 082 955 8342.
