National Wills Week coming up

As an animal lover and a supporter of the SPCA, you may wish to leave the organisation a bequest in your will.

DO you have a will? If not, September 12 to 16 is the perfect time to get one drawn up.

Across the country, participating attorneys, will be drafting free basic wills during National Wills Week, according to the Law Society of South Africa. A list of participating legal firms is available on their website, https://www.lssa.org.za

Leaving a good legacy is something we all think about, whether that means giving our children a good education, building a sustainable business or making a bequest to a much-loved charity.

A bequest is a gift, given to a charity of your choice, which is provided for in your will. You cannot be 100 per cent sure of what will happen to your estate unless you draw up a will. Bearing this in mind, would you consider the Johannesburg SPCA in your will?

Legacies from generous benefactors constitute by far the greatest source of revenue for the Johannesburg SPCA and, over the years, have helped them to build and improve their infrastructure, operate their mobile clinic and invest in much-needed capital equipment.

As an animal lover and a supporter of the SPCA, you may wish to leave the organisation a bequest in your will.

There are various options you have when you wish to leave a bequest to the charity of your choice. You can leave:

1. Your whole estate

2. A percentage of your estate

3. A specific sum

4. A specific item of value, such as jewels or property.

It is important to note that you should mention the charity’s registration number to ensure there is no confusion as to which charity or branch of charity is to receive your gift.
