Out with the old, in with the new

Southgate’s Walk of Fame shoe sale is the first of several special value opportunities and experiences aimed at celebrating the mall’s upcoming 26th anniversary, in October.

DURING the last week of July, Southgate Mall hosted its second annual Walk of Fame shoe sale, the biggest of its kind in the south of Jozi.

More than a dozen shoe retailers, boasting a wide variety of imported and local brands for the whole family, offered up to 50 per cent discount on their winter stock to make way for exciting new summer ranges.

Hollywood-style ‘Walk of Fame’ star decals on public walkways, and giant golden Oscar-inspired statues at the entrances of participating stores, attracted the fashion forward and bargain hunters alike.

Eye-catching ‘Pop a Balloon’ stations, manned by glamorous promo girls, with bouquets of colourful balloons containing mall gift cards and other instantly redeemable value incentives for Walk of Fame shoppers, proved very popular.

High-end style at low-end prices from the likes of Bata Shoes, Benelli, Crossover International, Gen-X, Grand Shoes, Keedo International, Rage, S & K Legends, Shoe City, Side Step, Skipper Bar, Solo Shoes, Stallone, and Timberland made sure shoppers were spoilt for choice.

One of the highlights of the event was customisation of Converse sneakers at the new Crossover International store, as well as a buy-one-get-one-free special, where customers who purchased a pair of Black Monotone Hi’s received a pair of Crimson Monotone Hi’s, valued at R750, absolutely free.

Southgate Mall and ‘Friends of Southgate’ – a group of celebrities including Soweto’s Finest Dance Crew, Kagiso Modupe, who plays the character ‘Mangi’ on e.tv’s ‘Scandal!’, and a handful of other artists – are collecting new and gently used shoes for charities in the South. Several drop-off locations within the mall will remain in place until the end of August.

Shoppers who wish to donate in bulk can also send a direct message to the Southgate Facebook page or email info@southgatemall.co.za, and collection of shoes will be arranged.

Southgate’s Walk of Fame shoe sale is the first of several special value opportunities and experiences aimed at celebrating the mall’s upcoming 26th anniversary, in October, and the new Transport Hub which is currently under construction.
