The icing on the top

“I realised icing cakes was my passion and when I saw the course advertised decided to enrol. Now I have gained my Masters Certificate my dream is to concentrate on wedding, engagement, Christening and speciality cakes,” she said.

INTERNATIONALLY recognised, Hester Hoffman from Robertsham, has just been awarded her Masters Certificate for successfully completing the Precision Metal Engineering (PMC) Professional Diploma modules in sugarpaste, royal icing and sugar flowers.

Hester enrolled with the Jabulani School of Cooking, part of Mondeor Home Bake, in Mondeor in 2015 and finished her course in July this year. Her tutor, Bernice Abrahams, is very proud of Hester.

“She has been an exemplary student and I wish her well with her career in cake baking and icing,” said Bernice.

Hester started baking for family and friends and then began to get orders. “I realised icing cakes was my passion and when I saw the course advertised decided to enrol. Now I have gained my Masters Certificate my dream is to concentrate on wedding, engagement, Christening and speciality cakes,” she said.

“I’d like to thank Bernice for being such a patient instructor. She always had time to spend with me and I appreciate all she has taught me.”

Bernice began her career in baking and icing when she baked for home industries a number of years ago. In 2000 she joined the SA Cake Decorators Guild to advance her skills and is presently teaching advanced courses and judging. “I think the practice of baking and cake icing is becoming very popular again and TV programmes, such as Master Chef and The Cake Boss, certainly inspire people to learn how to bake and decorate speciality cakes.”
