Ronnie visits Creative Academy

Vassanjee was more than excited to get her hands dirty with the children and confirmed that planting the tree was the most fun

CREATIVE Academy Preschool and Baby Centre in Brackenhurst recently received a special visit from Ronnie Recycler (the Mpact Recycling mascot) and Tamzin Vassanjee (Mrs South Africa 2016 finalist).

Mpact Recycling, a leading paper recycler in South Africa, has partnered with the top 25 Mrs South Africa finalists to promote recycling at various schools and communities.

Yasmeen Adam, marketing representative from Mpact Recycling, has teamed up with Tamzin Vassanjee from Eye of Africa to visit nominated schools in the South of Johannesburg.

Creative Academy has been recycling with Mpact Recycling for the past 18 months and has quickly become recycling ambassadors.

The school has a green Ronnie Bank which they fill on a monthly basis by encouraging their learners to bring paper, magazines, newspapers, cartons (milk and juice cartons) etc. from home, in their little green Ronnie bags provided by Mpact Recycling. This encourages learners to ‘feed Ronnie’ all the above mentioned items.

The purpose of the visit from Ronnie Recycler and Tamzin Vassanjee was to promote and encourage recycling as well as reward the top learners who brought in the most paper for the month of July.

Tamzin and Ronnie rewarded the top three learners with certificates, Ronnie badges and Ronnie pencils.

In addition to this, the green ambassador at the school, Jenna Axsel (owner and principal), invited Ronnie and Tamzin to plant an indigenous tree in the school’s backyard.

Vassanjee was more than excited to get her hands dirty with the children and confirmed that planting the tree was the most fun.

Mpact Recycling’s school paper pick-up programme allows schools to raise funds, as the schools get paid for their recyclables, whilst teaching learners about environmental awareness, responsibility and sustainability.

Creative Academy runs a monthly paper drive which contributes towards the two Mpact Recycling campaigns which the school is participating in, the Schools Competition and the Magazine Drive. Both campaigns conclude at the end of September 2016.

Creative Academy would like to thank the community for their continuing support and encourage more community members and offices to get involved by donating all their unwanted paper, magazines and newspapers to the school for recycling.
