President High teacher honoured

The Earl of Wessex is a champion of youth empowerment and is the global patron for the Duke of Edinburgh which is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year.

GRADE 11 and 12 life sciences teacher Annalize Jacobs from Hoërskool President High School was among the four teachers who were awarded a Certificate of Achievement by His Royal Highness, Prince Edward, the Earl of Wessex at the University of Johannesburg Soweto Science Centre on Monday, May 23.

The certificate was to acknowledge achievement in the category of ‘Outstanding dedication and commitment by a teacher (Life Sciences)’, as part of the training programme presented in partnership by the United Kingdom’s Prosperity Fund, British High Commission South Africa, South African Institute of Physics, University of Johannesburg Science Faculty and The United Kingdom Institute of Physics.

“Receiving this certificate was totally unexpected and the prince is a very humble man,” said Annalize Jacobs.

The Earl of Wessex is a champion of youth empowerment and is the global patron for the Duke of Edinburgh which is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year. This massive and historic visit was inspired by the significant strides and remarkable progress made by the Soweto Science Centre since its inception.
