Altercation ensues in hospital

Jennifer-Ann Clark said she was attacked by two nurses and a security officer in the South Rand Hospital.

A KENILWORTH mother of three boys is calling on the South Rand hospital to investigate an ‘alleged’ assault by two nurses and a security officer.

Jennifer-Ann Clark from Kenilworth visited the hospital to take her sons to see a doctor in the morning of Monday, May 23, around 08:30, she was involved in an altercation with the nurses and security officer and she posted photos of her bruises on social media to complain about the attack and level of unprofessionalism.

“The whole thing started when I forgot to take some consultation number from the nurse at the reception for one of my boys. My father went to the desk to try and get it for me but the nurses started shouting at him and saying he knew he should have taken the number. I went to them and said they had no right to talk to my father like that and while I was walking away I said, ‘You shouldn’t have to be a b***h about it.’ I admit that was wrong in saying this. But after that the nurses started assaulting me and I sustained injuries.

“That was very unprofessional because I did not hit anyone and I was not even fighting back. The entire time when I was being attacked I screamed asking where my children were because I did not want them to get hurt in the middle of the whole thing.

“The security officer also assaulted me and hid his name tag when he saw I was taking a video. Two nurses attacked me. The one nurse from the front and the other nurse came up from behind and choked me. In the video you can see my father blocking the one nurse as she was coming to assault me,” said Jennifer-Ann.

Jennifer-Ann informed the COURIER that she tried to take the matter to hospital management where she spoke to a gentlemen who allegedly said she could open a case but nothing would happen. She said she went to Moffatview SAPS to try and open a case of assault but was told she needed a medical report, and to do so she had to go back to the hospital but she could not face going back there. “They probably won’t let me in,” she said.

“I have not interest in opening a case, to be honest. I just want disciplinary action to be taken. I cannot just let this one go because the nurses work with people and they could do this again to someone else. Even an apology would do.”

The COURIER is communicating with the hospital management. An update will follow.
