Moffatview SAPS successes

Moffatview SAPS would like to warn members of the public not to open their doors to unknown people outside their houses.

OVER the week of May 17 to May 23, Moffatview SAPS arrested 43 suspects for various crimes.

Suspects were arrested for the following: armed robbery – three, assault common – one, assault GBH – two, assault common under domestic violence – two, attempted theft of motor vehicle – one, common robbery – three, driving under the influence of alcohol – one, malicious damage to property – one, illegal immigrants – three, possession of drugs – 14, reckless and negligent driving – one, sexual assault – one, shoplifting – six, theft – four and one for being in possession of dangerous weapon.

On Tuesday, May 24, at about 10:30, Warrant Officer Chunku Biyela and Captain Noxolo Mtshalala were carrying out their operational duties at La Rochelle.

The area is notorious for robberies and illegal activities, so the officers were conducting observations at the corner of Johannesburg Road and 1st Street. Here they noticed a suspicious looking male wearing a brown jersey and khakhi pants.

When W/O Biyela decided to approach him, the man suddenly started walking away. W/O Biyela shouted at him to stop. He identified himself as a police officer and asked to search him. W/O Biyela found a knife and arrested the man for possession of a dangerous weapon.
