H&M part and parcel of World Recycle Week

H&M will be opening its next store in the Mall of Africa on April 28 at 09:00.

APART from the fact that H&M opened its retail store at Mall of the South in March as well as the newest addition to its chain of stores in South Africa, at Clearwater Mall, it is part and parcel of World Recycle Week.

H&M opened its fourth retail store at Clearwater on Saturday, April 16. Another H&M addition to the family will be opening on April 28 at the Mall of Africa at 09:00. It will be its fifth store in South Africa and the biggest by far.

But what is most important for H&M is that it is inspiring its customers to take part in recycling. Customers who bring their unwanted clothing to its stores will also be awarded with discount vouchers to spend in store.

At each H&M there will be a recycle facility where customers can hand in their unwanted or worn out garments for recycling. H&M is aiming to collect 1 000 tons of clothing worldwide to create textile fibres for new products. This initiative of collecting unwanted garments from its customers began in 2013.

To raise awareness, rapper M.I.A. wrote the song ‘Rewear it’ exclusively for H&M and the World Recycle Week campaign. H&M worked closely with choreographer Aaron Sillis to interpret M.I.A.’s music and lyrics into dance moves for the campaign’s video.

“World Recycle Week is about embracing important environmental issues such as the landfills, and highlighting a global movement,” says M.I.A.

This is one of the most extensive environmental projects that H&M has undertaken and the full campaign video was featured on hm.com on April 11.
