Rand water fixes leak

There is a long standing water leak on the edge of the park, near the intersection with Glen Avenue, adjacent to the Caltex garage.

A WATER pipe in the park on Vorster Avenue, Glenanda, was leaking for months prior to repair work by Rand Water which began last week.

Residents in the area were becoming angry with the wastage of water and even though the leak was reported it had to be detected under the ground.

“Daily I drive past the park in Vorster Avenue in Glenanda. There is a long standing water leak on the edge of the park, near the intersection with Glen Avenue, adjacent to the Caltex garage. The ground is soggy with grass growth and water running across the pavement and down the street, testimony to the steady but slow leak. We have water restrictions to deal with but have to watch water wastage like this. It is sad,” said one resident.

At first it couldn’t be determined whether it was Joburg Water’s pipe or Rand Water’s pipe which was leaking but after further investigation Rand Water has taken the responsibility to fix it.

Work is now in progress and a large hole has been dug to reach the pipe which is leaking. A sign has been erected on the outside of the fenced off area, warning of the dangers of entering the construction area.
