Jordao College celebrates Easter by helping others

They were joined by the team from Alcohol and Drug Concerns, based at the Kholofelo Hope Centre in West Turffontein and together with Warrant Officer Gerhard Cornelius of the SAPS.

AFTER a long term of hard work and perseverance, Principle Cidalia Olivier and the pupils and staff of Jordao College in Towerby decided to mark the occasion by assisting those less fortunate on Friday, March 18.

They were joined by the team from Alcohol and Drug Concerns, based at the Kholofelo Hope Centre in West Turffontein, and Warrant Officer Gerhard Cornelius from the SAPS. The entire school donned the colour red to show unity in standing against alcohol and drug abuse in South Africa, and to show a zero tolerance policy in support of the cause.

When the school closed on Friday, March 18, it divided into teams and completed a subject-based quiz race where their skills learnt throughout the year were tested in a fun manner. The event was a resounding success.

“One thing Jordao College does feel strongly about is giving back to the community, and since the Easter season is upon us, the school turned its focus to those who may have no reason to smile this Easter season,” teacher Craig Stadler said.

The school held a competition among its grades to collect Easter eggs for the less fortunate, which will be delivered to old age homes and orphanages during the school holidays.

“Huge congratulations to the Grade 11 class for winning with a massive 916 eggs collected. They will certainly bring some smiles to the faces of those who need it most,” Craig said.
