Teresa John (guest speaker) spoke about one of her favourite subjects, royalty, and had the members memorised as she gave a slide show about the six queens who have reigned in England.
“The present queen of England, Elizabeth, born on 21 April 1926, will be 90 this year. Her 60 years on the throne was celebrated in June 2012 with the Diamond Jubilee.
“In the last millennium there have been only six female sovereigns: Mary I and Elizabeth I, Mary II and Anne, Victoria and Elizabeth II. With the exception of Mary I, they are among our most successful monarchs,” said Teresa.
The morning was enjoyed by all who attended and delicious refreshments were served with birthday cupcakes, making it special.
“The cupcakes should have the figures 64 iced on top but a gremlin came into play and it looks like we are only celebrating 54 years,” laughed Joy Boswell, president of Eikenhof WI.
