Miss Earth promotes a good cause

Miss Earth 2014, Ilze Saunders, shows her support for a good cause.

THE Rising Flower Community Project NPO has inspired Miss Earth 2014, Ilze Saunders, to join in and help plant vegetables for a good cause.

The NPO, located within the premises of Forest High School, is growing vegetables which are distributed to old age homes and feeding schemes in the South of Johannesburg. A number of students from the school were seen lending helping hands during their break, inspiring Ilze to get down on her knees and plant seeds that will one day produce vegetables to feed the hungry.

“These guys inspire me to want to do more for a good cause, not the other way around. To see them standing together like this, for charity, is just inspirational. It just so incredible to see the school children take part in this project because you see learners fight for food security,” said Ilze.

There is still a need for volunteers, work suits, boots and transport to deliver the vegetables to charity homes. It is also difficult to carry the produce to the old age homes in plastic bags.

People, organisations and businesses wishing to help by volunteering for or sponsoring the project can phone Nobuhle Ndongeni on 079 429 4285 or Subjee on 073 187 7903.
