Man in his 50s killed on R59

ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene, and on arrival, found the bakkie partially wedged beneath a large truck.

A man in his 50s was killed and another injured this morning after their bakkie rear-ended a truck on R59 near the Johan Le Roux off-ramp in Meyerton.

ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene, and on arrival, found the bakkie partially wedged beneath a large truck. Both vehicles lay in the middle of the road.

On assessment, paramedics found two occupants had been in the bakkie at the time of the incident. It was found that the driver had already succumbed to his fatal injuries and lay trapped inside his vehicle.

Nothing more could be done for the patient and he was declared dead on scene.

The male passenger was assessed and found to have sustained moderate injuries. He was treated for his injuries and thereafter transported by another service to a nearby hospital for further treatment.

The driver of the truck fortunately did not sustain any injuries.

The cause of the collision is not yet known but local authorities were on scene for further investigations.
