Rising Flower Community Project makes progress

The NPO Rising Flower Community Project has made great progress, growing fresh produce on 4ha of land on the premises of Forest High School, since securing permission to plant their vegetables last year.

This community project was founded in 2003, to help to provide food to the elderly at the Glenesk Old Age Home, Bellavista Old Age Home, Forest High School’s feeding scheme and Rising Flower’s own feeding scheme. Some of the produce will be sold cheaply to local residents.

“We are dedicated to creating opportunities within our area and surrounding communities for people to achieve the skills and well-being necessary to build a better life for themselves and their children.

The Rising Flower Community Project aims to bridge the gap between black and white, rich and poor and to create a model for sustainable development for impoverished communities,” said founding member Feroza Subjee.

But progress does not mean a lack of hardship; these dedicated cadres of charity do not receive any funding and will appreciate any support from businesses and individuals wishing to help.

They are still in need of  volunteers, work suits, boots and transport to deliver the vegetables to charity homes – it has been a hefty task carrying the produce to the old age homes in plastic bags.

People, organisations and businesses wishing to help by volunteering for or sponsoring the project can phone Nobuhle Ndongeni on 079 429 4285 or Subjee on 073 187 7903.
