REUVEN Retirement Village residents reflect kindly on 2015 and appreciate and treasure many fond memories.

Various religious, welfare, businesses, schools, societies, Booysen Police, the Southdale Post Office and a number of individuals, gave so much of their services and organised lunches, entertainment, outings and shared their talents with the residents, said Caroline Ngoasheng, the chairperson of the Reuven Committee.

“On behalf of the residents and the committee, we wish to convey our inner-most gratitude for the love and kindness that we received all year round. To all the local businesses, organisations, societies and individuals, God bless you and may 2016 be a prosperous and a successful year for you all,” said Ngoasheng.

Jerry Theys from Reuven said the most recent contribution came from one of the residents who appealed to the committee for help. Her three grandchildren desperately needed shoes and school bags. It only took one phone call to Villa Pillay who readily responded by making it possible for the children to go to school.

These are some of the memorable moments for the residents:

• Gale Pocket and her daughter, distributed Christmas gift-packs to the residents. Erica Baker and her daughter-in-law, Jennifer, also distributed books and clothing.

• Meals on Wheels in conjunction with Busy Fingers, a group of ladies, led by Aneesa Parak, arranged a lunch for the residents.

• Learners from Mondeor High School and Waterstone College entertained the oldies with music, drinks and sweet and salty snacks.

• Ann Pynee organised a lunch and Sonto donated clothing.

• A lavish lunch for the elderly was organised by Pick n Pay’s The Glen, Southdale and Southgate franchises.

• An impressive Christmas lunch was organised by Sue Lubbe and friends and many other volunteers who sacrificed December 24, to entertain the residents with a lavish lunch. Almost 200 residents were treated at the Reuven Communal Hall and the decoration and the lively atmosphere ensured a joyous mood among the elderly.

• Elder Romeo and many of the members of the Shekinah Glorious Faith Ministries from Booysens, arrived with a truck load of groceries to be distributed to the residents. Hundreds of residents received the much-needed grocery packs. This is the third time that groceries were distributed by the church to the residents at Reuven Retirement Village.
