Youngsters end the year on a high note

An excited audience consisting of proud parents, family and friends attended the showcase.

JOHANNESBURG SOUTH: Learners of Urvashi Bhika’s Speech and Drama Studio celebrated their annual awards over the weekend of December 5 in The Hill.

The participants performed to an excited audience consisting of proud parents, family and friends at the filled out venue and displayed their talents in their colourful costumes. The learners took the audience on quite a journey travelling from a SABC newsroom with notes from a Gogo’s diary to a little Burlesque from aunties Julie and Rookie from Lenasia, then swept off to Hogwarts’ Darker side of Harry Potter and to Southern USA with a girl named Juniper. The audience also journeyed from the Jungle full of Wild Animals in Doubt, to the Roaring 1930’s with feuding boys and girls.

“I am very proud of my learners and their efforts. Communication is a vital life skill and speech and drama is the way to go when you, as a parent, want to teach your children to competently express themselves. It is a tool for confidence and self-worth, and can be seen as cornerstones of emotional and mental growth,” said Urvashi.

The learners who passed Trinity Guildhall Examinations are Zarna Vallabh in Grade Two with a merit pass, Zahra Chothia in Grade Three with a merit pass, Zeenat Moolla in Grade Eight with a merit pass and Sonia Bhika in Grade Six achieved a distinction.

The learners come from Bassonia, Glenvista, Meyersdal, Alberton, Ridgeway, Winchester Hills, Robertsham, Ormonde, and travel as far as Lenasia to attend the Speech and Dance Studio.
