Don’t take the law into your own hands – Clr Faeeza Chame

If the community see a corrupt police officer they must note the time, the police vehicle registration number and the three digit numbers on the sides of the vehicles.

JOHANNESBURG SOUTH – Ward 57 councillor Faeeza Chame wants residents of of ward 57 to report all the criminals and not to take the law into their own hands when they catch them in the act.

Clr Chame helped arranged a public meeting with residents of the South Hills, the SAPS and community patrollers, to discuss ways in which the community can be made safer. This meeting was held on Friday, September 28.

Colonel Shaun Governor from Moffatview SAPS told the residents that they are experiencing a problem where parents allow their children to bring home stolen goods.

“I also think that the scrap yards in the South should all stop purchasing stolen goods as that gives the youngsters reasons to steal other people’s valuables,” said Clr Chame.

Clr Chame raised the concerns of residents about criminals who are apprehended and then they walk free within a few hours or a couple of days. During the meeting she also stressed that the community should report corrupt police officers. They can do so by taking notes of the date, time and place of the act, as well as the police vehicle’s registration number and the three digit numbers on the sides of the vehicles, and then report it to SAPS.
