TLC: Nursery school practitioners graduate

Many of the TLC students are sponsored by organisations including Cotlands, Joint Aid Management and the Lerato Community Centre and have their own early childhood development (ECD) sites in Orange Farm and other local communities.

NEWLY qualified nursery school practitioners recently celebrated their graduation from the Teachers Learning Centre (TLC) for Early Childhood Development with a graduation ceremony held at the Christian Harvest Church.

With a completed and accredited NQF level four or five qualification, these graduates can now implement their skills and knowledge as competent nursery school practitioners.

As set out by the Department of Education in their national strategic plan, the graduates have been prepared to facilitate the learning and development of babies, toddlers and young children.

Many of the TLC students are sponsored by organisations including Cotlands, Joint Aid Management and the Lerato Community Centre and have their own early childhood development (ECD) sites in Orange Farm and other local communities.

These graduates would previously not have had the opportunity to further their ECD career as they did not qualify for access to higher education. “Since many of our graduates do not have a Grade 12 education, their English, second language and mathematical literacy are bridged according to the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) standards,” said Lorraine Patterson, the coordinator of TLC Early Childhood Development.

“We believe that with the skills they acquired, their contribution to uplift pre-school education will be invaluable in the current South African context. In addition, their achievements will provide them with opportunities for capacity building in their own communities.

“Organisations who wish to contribute to the upliftment of the ECD sector and at the same time enhance their BEE status, corporate social responsibility and enterprise development, can contact Sandy Burmeister at our head office on 011 432 6189 or visit our premises on the corner of True North Road and Little Loop Street in Mulbarton.”
