Elderly woman killed in hit-and-run

The driver who is said to be of foreign descent fled the scene as he was responsible for fatal damage.

A 75-year-old woman, Magret Mraji, was killed in a hit-and-run incident involving two vehicles on Monday, October 5.

ANC Clr Radebe said after Magret was hit by the vehicles, on the corner of Turf Club and Garden streets, the driver of the vehicle responsible for fatal accident fled the scene. According to witnesses, he is of foreign descent. The suspect is still at large.

“We want JRA to put up warning signs that encourage motorists to drive slow in the Reuven area as there are senior citizens walking the streets. Magret and her husband, Nelson Maqobo, stayed in the Reuven Old Age Home for over five years. We are helping him arrange everything so that his wife can have a decent funeral,” said Radebe.

Christine Crossley, from Meals on Wheels Caregivers, was assisting and driving Nelson to all the destinations he needed to go to in order to complete the funeral arrangements. The Meals on Wheels Caregivers help senior citizens in retirement villages make their way to all the places they need to visit, such as the clinic, hospital or stores where they buy their groceries.
