CANSA unit scoops up awards

Manny de Freitas said that CANSA continues to be highly respected and recognised as a leader in not only what it does but how it is managed and run as an organisation.

The Cancer Association of South Africa (CANSA) held its annual general meeting (AGM) on Thursday, September 17, at the CANSA head office in Bedfordview.

The AGM also served as a platform where excellence within CANSA was recognised. CANSA is divided into three business units, the Northern, Central and Southern Business Units. The Northern Business Unit (NBU) includes the Gauteng, Limpopo and North West provinces.

Governor of the NBU, Manny de Freitas, said that he was very proud of his unit as it was extensively recognised at the AGM. Adele da Silva was awarded the gold award for middle management for excellence in the work that she does in CANSA.

Bobby Were received the support services gold award whilst Anjolien Brink was awarded the gold award for sustainability. “I am also particularly proud of the unit as we received the gold award for the most improved unit,” said de Freitas.

De Freitas said that in an environment where NGOs are cutting back on their functions, activities and services, CANSA is expanding theirs in an environment where ‘every cent is turned around’.

He also said that CANSA continues to be highly respected and recognised as a leader in not only what it does but how it is managed and run as an organisation.

“This is not possible were it not for the amazing and dedicated staff in CANSA who go that extra mile.”
