JRA updates on deadly corner

JRA have completed their investigations and have made recommendations.

CORNER of Marula Crescent and Xavier Street in Winchester Hills has been dubbed the corner of danger due to the terrible accidents that occur there.

In an effort to reduce the number of accidents residents placed tree stubs and other illuminating warning signs to indicate the dangerous curve to approaching motorists.

On April 9 Bertha Scheepers, the marketing and communications operations manager for the Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA), committed to sending out inspectors to the dangerous corner.

Scheepers provided an update on September 10: “The investigations have been completed and recommendations are that 45 metres of guardrails be installed and painted red and white to improve the visibility to approaching motorists and to prevent vehicles from sliding off the cliff. It is also recommended that rumble strips be installed just before the bend to alert drivers to the severe bend/curve”.

“Warning and speed limit signs are in place and road markings are up to standard. All the road markings were repainted on April 16, 40km/h and chevrons signs and poles were installed. Apart from all these interventions it is important that drivers adopt a compliant approach to the rules of the road.”
