FNB renovates kitchen for local parish

ST Vincent de Paul Society opened a weekly soup kitchen at their South Hills parish with the help of FNB, one of their major sponsors.

Erica Forgiarini, president of the society, said they previously had to prepare the food offsite at the La Rochelle kitchen and transport it to South Hills. This posed many challenges as it is mostly soup or stew that is transported.

“With a match funding initiative, FNB were able to accumulate enough money to get their contractors to create a kitchen out of two rooms that were badly maintained and utilized. The vestry was relocated into a renovated room and the old vestry and unused passage way were flattened to create a whole new adventure for the parish!

“At the opening about 90 people came to the meal. FNB spoilt them and added extras to the usual meal with cold-drinks, chocolates and a lovely cake to celebrate the day. Their generosity has been huge and we are very grateful for all the efforts of Elvie Moreira, Glen Thomas and all management overseeing this project, as well as the volunteers they brought with to help serve and cleanup,” Erica said.
