Sir John Adamson High School rugby girl represent

Young girls participated in the South African National Championships.

FULL contact rugby, as well as sevens rugby for boys and girls, are growing sports at Sir John Adamson High School in Rifle Range Road, Winchester Hills.

After training and attending the trials, which were held over a period of two months, two u.16 and six u.18 girls were selected from Sir John Adamson High School for the Golden Lions rugby teams. Girls rugby at school level only started in 2014 and Sir John Adamson girls are already committed to this new sport.

The u.16 team went to Oudtshoorn to participate in the National Championships and the u.18 girls tournament was played in Durban, during the July holidays. Hlehle Madi was selected as captain of the u.18 Lions squad.

The school has two boys sevens rugby teams and a girls sevens rugby team. Learners have developed a passion for rugby under the guidance of the enthusiastic rugby coach, Micky Oosthuizen, who was the Lions manager for the u.18 tournament.

The boys are now part of the Alberton Rugby Club which has developed their rugby skills at a rapid pace. Rugby sevens and touch rugby are developing the important skill of being a team player in the young players because such a skill will enable them to handle difficult situations in later life.
