Accountants to help SGBs compile financial reports

Workshops will equip SGBs to compile adequate financial reports

GAUTENG MEC for Education, Panyaza Lesufi, in partnership with the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA), launched a project which aims to equip School Governing Bodies (SGBs) with financial management and reporting skills.

This project was launched on August 15 and will see 53 chartered accountants (CAs) seconded to schools to provide SGBs with support, basic tools and skills that will allow them to properly oversee their school’s financial affairs.

The accountants will ensure that financial policies are in place, that there is an operational finance committee, budgets are drawn up and adhered to, that there is a spending oversight, that asset registers exist and are managed, and ensure that financial statements are properly audited.
