IN the not too distant future, families should be able to enjoy something completely new at Rietvlei Zoo Farm and Jo Polmeer is as excited as a child on Christmas morning about letting the community know what is happening.

The mini land, or as a community member said: “Alberton’s Small World”, is in the beginning stage and on Wednesday, August 12, a bulldozer, courtesy of Rietvlei Zoo Farm, began the task of clearing ground in preparation for the project.

“We are very excited to see the project getting off the ground and we are looking for anyone who has an interest in ‘mini’ architecture, landscaping, building, in fact anyone who would like to assist in this new project. Retired residents are more than welcome to come on board; they may have extra hours in their week to assist,” said Jo.

Colin Muller is the project leader of Rand Airport, which will be first on the map. “Rand Airport was built in 1923 and the ‘mini’ version will concentrate on the years from then until the 70s. If you would like to assist with the airport venture I can be contacted on 074 345 5363.”

“We haven’t decided on a definite name for the ‘mini’ land yet and would love to get the community’s ideas. Schools are welcome to submit their ideas too. This is going to be something for the young and the old to enjoy. The more volunteers we manage to acquire the quicker our dream will come true,” said Jo.

“I was previously chatting to Chans, an engraver, but have mislaid his contact details. If you know of him, or you yourself read this Chans, please phone me with contact details.”

If you would like to volunteer time, ideas, or would care to sponsor a ‘mini’ building, be it a company, a school, a church or a place of interest, contact Jo on 083 287 4702.
