Moffatview cop is one step ahead

The rightful owners of the step ladder arrived on the scene and the ladder was safely returned to them.

SERGEANT Mbhazima Shisana from Moffatview Police Station trusted his instincts when he stopped two men with an aluminium step ladder in Augusta Road, Regents Park, on Wednesday, August 12.

It turned out the step ladder was stolen from a house in Frieda Street. A COURIER reporter witnessed the incident when Sgt Shisana stopped the two men.

“I saw these two guys coming from Frieda Street into Augusta Road. When they were about to turn into Edward Street, a police van from Moffatview Police Station came and an officer went out to stop these guys. You could see the officer was asking them about the step ladder. The officer was great in securing the scene, he was talking to these guys while holding his holster and ordered them to put the step ladder into the back of the van. They then ran away,” explained the COURIER reporter.

The rightful owners of the step ladder arrived on the scene and the ladder was safely returned to them.

Martin Ncube was painting the house along Frieda Street. “I went to the back of the house to fetch thinners and when I came back I was shocked and confused to find the ladder missing. It happened so quickly. Thank you very much to the officer, he helped a lot. That was great work from him,” said Ncube.

Sgt Shisana said he suspected the men might have stolen the step ladder and that is why he stopped them.

An eyewitness said he saw the men alighting a dark blue Citi Golf. The golf went to a nearby scrapyard, and the witness said the men are from South Hills.
