Police investigate Oakdene murder

Odette's estranged husband has been struggling to come to terms with her death and is alleged to have hired his own private investigator to investigate her murder.

JOHANNESBURG SOUTH – What was thought to be the hijacking and murder of Odette Barkhuizen (43), on June 11, at her business premises in Oakdene, has taken a turn.

Private detectives and SAPS members who have been investigating her murder for weeks, say sources close to the case have revealed a suspect in the case.

On the day of the hijacking and murder, Odette’s vehicle was captured on CCTV footage, being driven away from the scene, but the camera didn’t clearly pick up if there was just a driver or passengers, as well.

The vehicle, a Kia Carnival, was recovered later that same afternoon in nearby Erongo Avenue, Oakdene.

Odette’s estranged husband has been struggling to come to terms with her death and is alleged to have hired his own private investigator to investigate her murder.

A friend of Odette told the Comaro CHRONICLE reporter, on the day of her memorial service, on June 16, that she was suspicious about the murder but couldn’t reveal more information until proof was uncovered.

About 70 mourners gathered that day to pay their respects, lay flowers, light candles and set free balloons in remembrance of her life.

On Saturday July 25, a search by SAPS, Moffatview/Oakdene CPF forensic investigator Paul O’Sullivan and Odette’s family took place on the piece of land next to where she was shot.

“We did find something which may be evidence, but we are waiting for the report from forensics,” said O’Sullivan.

Since Odette’s death friends have begun a Facebook page, Justice for Odie. Many messages of love and support have been posted on the page, including: “We will keep praying for Justice”, “We pray every day for our beautiful friend” and “We’ll never give up, you gave your everything”

The CHRONICLE is continuing to follow up the story with a family member and the Moffatview SAPS was not available for comment on the possible suspect.
