UPDATE: Construction truck smashes into house in South Hills

A truck driver was killed after he lost control and crashed into the front of a house in South Hills, North Road on Thursday afternoon July 9.

SOUTH HILLS – The driver was driving down from Nephin Road when he ploughed through the palisade fence and into the house.

The occupant of the house, who was at the back of the house at the time of the incident, was fortunately not injured.

An eyewitness, Zanele Ndlangisa also from South Hills said she escaped the accident by her skin.

“I was going to Ellis Park, coming from Southern Klipriveirsberg Road, I stopped at the traffic lights which are not working. I then turned right to North Road, on my mirror I saw this truck racing towards me.

“It was flying! I don’t know how I survived, it was scary. The truck missed a little girl (about 16 years old) who was standing outside the house,” she explained.

ER24 paramedics and JMPD were on the scene. Chitra Bodasing, ER24 spokesperson said when the paramedics arrived on scene they found the truck lying on its side. The front of the house was badly damaged.

“The truck driver, who was ejected and found close to the truck, was assessed. It was found that he sustained multiple severe injuries. Unfortunately there was nothing paramedics could do for him. He was declared dead,” said Bodasing.
