Local youth conference shapes the future of the nation

The Sri Swami Chidananda Youth Conference hosted about 120 youth from Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal and the Cape from June 27 to June 29 at the Sava Dharma Ashrama.

JOHANNESBURG SOUTH- The youth had the opportunity to broaden their minds, to embrace spiritualism and morals, at the Sri Swami Chidananda Youth Conference.

The conference hosted about 120 young people from Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal and the Cape from June 27 to 29, at the Sava Dharma Ashrama.

The conference was held with an aim to encourage spiritualism and morals in the youth of South Africa and to shape future religious leaders over the winter holidays. The theme of the conference was universal love.

According to those who attended the event turned out to be a great success, with the three-day camp focusing on topics such as character development, human values and stress management.

One of the yoga teachers, Sri Swami Shraddhanda Mataji, said: “It was extremely heartening to see youth from various religious denominations as well as various race groups interact with one another to learn about aspects of spirituality common to all religious teachings.

”The theme for the conference was ‘universal love’ and the exemplary manner in which every youth behaved towards one another and respected one another’s viewpoints in the various group discussions, is ample proof that the future augurs very well for the youth of our rainbow nation.

”As adults, we have a lot to learn from our younger generation when it comes to tolerance and universal love, as their hearts are pure and their minds untarnished by prejudices of the past.”

Due to the success of this first event, the organising committee have decided to make the Sri Swami Chidananda Youth Conference an annual event.
