Prominent figure arrested for assault

“Do we not qualify as residents” asked victims who say a high ranking Glenvista CPF member beat them to a pulp

THE arrest of a prominent South figure has sent shock waves through the community after three Glenanda victims identified the man on June 19, at his work place.

Lindile Mabude, Sam Seloane and Solomon Chitekedza said they were attacked at Vorster Park, in Glenanda, on April 30, allegedly by about 10 members belonging to the Glenvista Sector Forum also known as Glenvista CPF.

“I’ve never been beaten up like that, I was told I was a k*****,” said Chitekedza.

According to the three victims, they were beaten up, kicked in their ribs, had their heads stomped on and verbally abused by the men, who claimed they were bringing order to the community.

“Some of the men came from the bridge and the others came from Vorster Avenue, so we were surrounded and beaten,” said Mabude.

Const Elizabeth Sibongile Mnguni, Mondeor SAPS communications officer, confirmed that an arrest has been made.

“A suspect was arrested on June 19, for assault with grievous bodily harm. The suspect is associated with Glenvista Sector Forum. He is out on bail and the case has been remanded to July 22, by the Johannesburg Magistrates Court, for further investigation,” said Mnguni.

“We haven’t been to court; the arresting sergeant said he was going to let us know the court date, but no one has contacted us,” said Mabude, who added that they were shocked to see the man back on the streets of Glenanda on Monday, June 22.
