Stepping Stone Hospice opens new wing

Alberton Hospice opened its new wing to the public on June 19. They now have 7 beds that are available for patients who need care.

ALBERTON- A big thank you has gone out to the cycling team who rode for Stepping Stone Hospice in the 2014 94.7 Cycle Challenge as a new wing was opened on June 19.

Many supporters, colleagues from other hospices, volunteers and families of ex-patients came to celebrate the opening of this much needed new addition.

CEO Tersia Burger thanked everyone who helped make this special day possible and honoured them with certificates of gratitude. They now have seven beds instead of three and a quiet room available. Burger also mentioned that the 60 care workers look after between 70-80 outpatients on a weekly basis. Care workers visit these outpatients at their homes.

The 947 hospice cycling team also shared a bit of their experiences on the road and stressed that none of their hardships compare to what was happening on a daily basis at Stepping Stone Hospice. The team is overjoyed to see the result of their effort and glad that the funds they raised could help people in need.

After the ribbon cutting, guests were escorted through the building and then enjoyed some lovely refreshments in the garden.
