Horizon learner wins bronze at International Science Project Olympiad

Dirshan Ramlall, a South African boy represented South Africa along with two other South African learners in Indonesia at the International science Olympiad, . Him and his friend, Kamokgelo Mokoena, created Fo-na-Pen pen and won the bronze medal in the technology category.

DIRSHAN Ramlall, a 14-year-old from Horizon High, represented South Africa along with two other learners at the International Science Olympiad in Indonesia in May.

Dirshan and his friend Kamokgelo Mokoena completed a technology project last year at school and achieved very high marks. Horizon High then entered them into the Eskom Science fair in September 2014. The panel of judges saw a lot of potential in their Fone-a-Pen design and they won the silver medal for their unique creation.

Since they did so well in the competition, Eskom entered them into the International Science Olympiad where they won the bronze medal in the technology category. Dirshan says that they really enjoyed the experience and that he was surprised when they heard that they had won the bronze as the standard of the Olympiad was very high.
