Young girls from the South selected for a story book production

Beatrix Potter is still one of the world's best-selling and best-loved children's authors in the world

JOHANNESBURG SOUTH – Two little girls from Charmaine’s School of Ballet in Mondeor have been selected to be part of the Dance Illustrations of Beatrix Potter.

Kelsey Adams, a Grade Three learner at Meredale Primary School, and Kelly Groth Sacks, a Grade Two learner from Mondeor Primary School, were the only candidates from the South who got roles in the storybook production, which is showing from July 3 to July 5 at the Roodepoort Theatre.

Charmaine, the owner of the ballet school, expressed her excitement by saying: “The girls have done the dance studio proud by being accepted for this production. I wish them well and success with the production.”

Marlene Groth couldn’t contain her excitement and said: “I’m very proud of her. She’s been dancing since she was two-years-old, when she started with Charmaine. She’s a top achiever at school and she has potential to go far with ballet. Kelly got the role of the little mouse.”

Kelsey’s mother, Clareece Adams, said her daughter has been attending Charmaine’s ballet classes since she was four years old.

“Kelsey has been a real blessing to us and she’s doing extremely well in school as well as in ballet. When she was selected we were very excited. Kelsey’s going to be a group fish and she’s also been selected to do a role as Hunca Munca,” said Clareece.

Beatrix Potter is still one of the world’s best-selling and best-loved children’s authors, having wrote and illustrated 28 books that reportedly have been translated into more than 35 languages and sold over 100 million copies. The Tales of Beatrix Potter is a 1971 ballet film based on the children’s stories. The rendition to be performed in Roodepoort is directed and choreographed by Leigh-Anne Gorrie and will feature guest artist Nigel Hannah.
