Police clamp down on pedestrians crossing the N17
A nearby homeowner hears people, especially woman, crying in the morning when they are being robbed.
JMPD and SAPS officers, along with DA councillor Faeeza Chame, joined forces on Friday, May 29, to clamp down on pedestrians crossing the N17.
Pedestrians were warned and educated about the dangers of crossing the highway because when accidents happen, very few pedestrians are lucky to survive the impact.
At least 50 pedestrians were turned away from this dangerous crossing spot at Regents Park, near the Shell Garage. The crossing spot is notorious for various crimes. Hijackers use it to quickly escape onto the highway and speed off while officers search the inner suburbs.
A nearby homeowner informed the police that she often hears people, especially woman, crying in the morning when they are being robbed.
Faeeza will take the matter to the City of Johannesburg to see that barricade walls are put up to block any form of crossing. Meanwhile, JMPD and SAPS will continue blocking the crossing spot and deal with individuals who fail to get the message.
Pedestrians are advised to use Vickers Road as alternative route.
