Miss Earth contestant inspires the young

Monique is a Meyersdal resident currently studying at the University of the North West.

MONIQUE Marais, a Miss Earth South Africa contestant and final year BSc Consumer Science student, recently visited Suidheuwels Primary School to give the children a lecture on recycling, environmental cleanliness, and nature.

Monique is a Meyersdal resident currently studying at the University of the North West. She has a love for nature and animals and said that her main focus is to become a successful woman in her chosen field. Monique is grateful for the opportunity to be involved in the heritage of South Africa and credits this to the Miss Earth programme.

The Miss Earth South Africa programme aims to empower young South African women with the knowledge and platform to create a sustainable difference in environmental affairs. The programme would like to create an awareness of sustainable development, environmental issues, and conservation of the natural legacy of South Africa and the world.

Monique, who also has a passion for people and a special place in her heart for children, said that her experience with learners of Suidheuwels Primary School was enlightening.
