She wants to grow her strength

As part of her Miss Earth mandate, she is working with various high school learners, helping them with maths and science homework.

MISS Earth South Africa regional finalist Nontombi Kuzwayo (25), from Mondeor, wants to be instrumental in developing South Africa and preserving Mother Earth for generations to come.

She is currently a student at the University of Johannesburg, where she studies Building Science.

As part of her Miss Earth mandate, she is working with various high school learners, helping them with maths and science homework.

Nontombi shares her aspiration in life, and says: “Growing is my biggest ambition; I will grow from strength to strength, while enhancing the quality of the lives of the people I encounter along my journey – that is why I want to be Miss Earth SA.

”It is a phenomenal platform upon which I can build my dreams.

”I want to work with the Leadership and Woman Empowerment Programme, which focuses on developing and empowering young women through the vehicle of environmental education, providing the knowledge and platform to create a sustainable difference in our plight to combat the destruction of South Africa’s natural heritage.

“I want to be completely aware of my surroundings and raise the level of consciousness of everyone I can.

”As a Building Science student, I support Green Building, especially in a country that needs so much rural-urban development.”

According to Nontombi, Catherine Constantinides, executive director of the Miss Earth South Africa Programme, said they are excited about the current group of Miss Earth South Africa regional semi-finalists.

Projects to be completed include a food garden or waste project with a primary school, planting 10 indigenous trees as well as participating in the annual Miss Earth South Africa Clean-Ups.

They look forward to seeing the results as these young women embark on their green journeys within their communities.
