Two schools operate at Suidheuwels Primary

De Freitas said the ultimate plan is to move the temporary school currently operating from the Suidheuwels Laerskool property to Glenvista, where it will operate as a new primary school.

MEMBER of Parliament for Joburg South, Manny de Freitas, recently visited Suidheuwels Laerskool. Accompanying him were ward councillor Faeeza Chame and the ward 23 councillor, Paul Smit.

“We visited this school as we are concerned about reports of two schools operating from the premises,” said De Freitas.

De Freitas said the ultimate plan is to move the temporary school currently operating from the Suidheuwels Laerskool property to Glenvista, where it will operate as a new primary school.

“Although we welcome this new school, which is desperately needed in the area, it is of great concern that a school is being introduced without the proper physical infrastructure,” said De Freitas.

De Freitas, together with the two affected ward councillors, Chame and Smit, remain committed to ensuring that the process to introduce the school is done procedurally correctly and in a transparent manner.

De Freitas said he has submitted official questions to the Minister of Basic Education.

“Any new school must be introduced in such a way that it positively affects the learners and parents of that school, as well as the local community,” said De Freitas.

De Freitas and the councillors said they would monitor the development in this regard.
