N12 attack: suspect in custody

A suspect is being held in custody for questioning in connection with the N12 attacks

ALBERTON – A suspect has been brought in for questioning in connection with two instances of people being injured by being struck with bricks on the N12. The incidents both took place on April 30, after a pedestrian on the side of the N12 West threw bricks at cars. Two passengers in separate cars were struck by bricks and were severely injured.

Caden Slabbert, a primary school student was one of the two victims of the attack. He was in a medically induced coma after the incident and has been treated in the Clinton Hospital.

The second victim, Marionette Schwab, is also being treated for severe injuries to her head. The two victims were in separate cars and are not linked in any way, other than both falling victim to the random attack.

A man matching the description of the N12 attacker was spotted throwing bricks onto the road on 2nd Avenue in Alberton North. The suspect was detained by SOG security personnel and transported to Alberton SAPS for questioning.

Identification of the suspect has not been confirmed by eye witnesses; however the suspect was wearing clothing matching the description given to police. No official arrest has been made but the suspect remains in custody for questioning.
