An evening to remember

For Kerryn Stopforth and Kebelo Pooe, the evening was exceptionally special as the two deserving learners enjoyed being pampered and spoilt from morning till night!

ON Friday evening April 24, Waterstone College’s learners enjoyed their matric dance at Thaba Eco Hotel.

For Kerryn Stopforth and Kebelo Pooe, the evening was exceptionally special as the two deserving learners enjoyed being pampered and spoilt from morning till night!

Thabo Eco Hotel, along with sponsors, Audi The Glen, Pam Golding, Sinzinani Spa, Paul James Hairdressing and The Nail Studio, were inspired by Alta McMaster of The Fairy Godmother Project, and have undertaken to treat two well-deserved learners from each school who have their matric dance at Thaba Eco Hotel this year, to a day of spoiling and treats.

Matthew Ridgway, high school principal of Waterstone College, explained why he thought Kerryn and Kebelo were deserving of this wonderful experience.

“It is a combination of them being positive, loyal, and enthusiastic learners. They both excel in their own way,” he said.

Kerryn plays hockey and girls soccer for the first teams as well as hockey for the district. “I’m very sporty and also enjoy art and reading. I’m very involved at Alberton Methodist Church and assist with the youth club on a Friday. When I matriculate I’d like to study architecture or industrial psychology,” Kerryn said.

Kebelo enjoys playing cricket and is definitely academic, wanting to become a chartered accountant after studying.

Taryn Porteous, sales and business development manager, and Kim le Roux, marketing assistant, both from Thaba Eco Hotel, are heading the Matric Farewell Project and went along with the learners on the day of the dance.

Chatting to Kerryn and Kebelo just before they were whisked away in a sporty Audi, they were very excited and said the day had been fabulous, with treats all along the way.

“I went with Taryn and Kim to have my hair and nails done, and then we met up with Kebelo for a delicious lunch,” said Kerryn.

“We’ve been treated royally,” added Kebelo.

After a hectic day the two chose what they would like to wear for the dance, as well as all the accessories.

As the sun went down and Kerryn and Kebelo met their partners for the fun evening, from the smiles on their faces, it was sure to be an evening not to be forgotten in a long while.
