Response to the letter, ‘Seniors neglected at Reuven’, published in the last issue of the Southern COURIER.
Elderly people at the Reuven Old Age home were never neglected. I constantly pay them a visit and listen to their concerns and complaints.
The photograph that was published in the Southern COURIER must have been been taken some time ago, because the grass has been cut and the Department of Housing is attending to the issue of maintenance in the compound.
Moreover, the MMC of Housing has put aside a total amount of R100 millions for the maintenance of all old age homes in the City of Johannesburg.
As the City of Johannesburg, we value and respect senior citizens, and we therefore cannot afford to play cheap politicking on their plight.
