MAQamovie finalists announced

Shaughn said he agrees with the judges and he will work hard in future.

THOUGH West Turffontein’s Shaughn Reneke didn’t make it to the MAQamovie’s top 5, the judges loved him.

The finals were held at Newtown Junction on Saturday night April 11. All 15 selected finalists were given a script to perform and they were also allowed to present their own original one-minute scripts.

One of the judges, Nomzamo Mbatha, said they loved Shaughn. “The judges absolutely loved Shaughn, the only problem with him was the confidence, we loved his look, what he presented and the fact the he was different. He is great, amazing and has a great future, he cannot give up now,” she noted.

Shaughn said he agrees with the judges and he will work hard in future.

Each of the five nominated contestants received R10 000 and a chance to be cast in the new roles in a new South African movie by Phoenix Films, directed by film industry stalwart Darrell Roodt. They winners are Mbalenhle Zakwe, Sivenathi Mabuya, Oleboueng Mosime, Papiso Kegatile and Noxolo Simayi.

Jacqueline Jacobs, Sales and Marketing Director of MAQ Washing powder, congratulated all who participated. “The event was a huge success. We unearthed so much talent in South Africa. We were so impressed with all the 15 contestants, and the 10 who didn’t win will each get R5 000,” she said.

Another judge, Shona Ferguson, promised to cast a further two of the 10 contestants who were not selected on the day because of the potential he saw in them. The other judges were Sdumo Mtshali and Darrel Roodt, and the MC was Vusizwe Langa.
