30th Ghandi Walk commemorating centenary of his departure from SA

There will be fun and entertainment for the whole family, including a Kids Zone with slides, face painting and jumping castles to keep the toddlers entertained

THE 30th Gandhi Walk takes place on Sunday April 19, starting and finishing at the Gandhi Hall, Impala Crescent, Ext 5, Lenasia.

Participants from Gauteng and surrounding areas are preparing to participate in the new format of the 30th Gandhi Walk, being 12km and 6km walks, starting at 09:00 and 09:15 respectively.

Thirtieth commemorative medals and T-shirts will be handed to the first 3 000 walkers to complete the walks. Gandhi Walk always gives back to the community, and this year’s beneficiaries include Saaberie Chisty Ambulance Services, TIBA services for the Blind and Ikageng Relief Centre for the Aged.

The cost to enter is R20 per person and tickets can be bought in advance from Computicket outlets nationally, including Checkers and Shoprite. Walkers can also enter online via the website www.gandhiwalk.org.za or purchase their tickets on the morning of the walk.

Many dignitaries have been invited including the High Commissioner of India, Ahmed Kathrada, Mandela family, MEC Ismail Vadi and Isu Chiba as well as Miss India SA, Miss SA and Miss Earth SA, who will be riding in open cars with the walkers. A prize-giving ceremony will take place at 11:30 where trophies and prizes will be awarded to overall winners.

Free medical checkups for blood pressure, blood sugar and cholesterol, administered by Ahmed Kathrada Private Hospital, will be available to all. MAP will be offering free HIV tests.
