Disappointed with metrobus service

Resident ends up using taxis due to the lack of buses even after loading the bus tag.

I am a resident of Forest Hill who makes an honest living by getting up very early every morning to go to work in Braamfontein.

Because we are all not fortunate to have our own vehicles transport us to and from work, I have to leave home at 06:10 to catch the 06:20 bus that passes through Turffontein to start my day in the office at 08:00.

The sad part is that I load my bus tag of R314 for the month but end up paying an additional R150 on top of it as I have to end up using taxis due to the lack of buses. We have time tables reflecting the bus times, but the buses never turn up. On enquiring about specific bus times we’ve been told that they have been taken off the roads.

Inspectors drive around in their cars in the morning following buses so that they can inspect on the daily take-ins, see how long the queues are due to the lack of buses, but nothing is being done to address this problem. Last year we were advised that new buses were being bought, but to date there are none.

This is a total nightmare as we have close to 250 commuters in the morning who try to get to work at their earliest convenience, however only one double-decker bus comes through after every one hour thirty minutes.

If it were not for us buying and loading our tags ,where would the salaries come from for all Metrobus staff including the CEO? Has Metrobus advised the Minister of Transport regarding the current situation we are all faced with? And what has been done thus far to help the commuters?
