Carwash at Rietvlei celebrates anniversary by giving back to the community

THE Carwash at Rietvlei Zoo Farm celebrated its one year anniversary on March 29 and invited two non-profit NGO’s to join them.

A Place of Hope and Thiboloha Bophelong HIV/Aids Project were selected to receive a donation of R6 000 each from the proceeds of the day.

Mpho Madonsela (Thiboloha Bophelong HIV/Aids Project) said the money would contribute a great deal to ensuring that their work with children who are orphaned could go ahead.

“We do home-based care so when the caretakers of these children pass away, there’s a need for someone to look after the children who are left behind. We make sure that child-headed households receive the help and support needed,” explained Mpho.

Bronwyn van Rooyen of A Place of Hope said: “We do community work for Jacksons Drift in Eikenhof. We collect resources for the community, and teach them how to be self-serving by teaching them how to plant vegetables. We’ve also built a community hall in the area and we assist child-headed homes, and look after the grannies that care for their grandchildren.”

A Place of Hope is run by Trinity Methodist Church, and they are always in need of donations. More details can be found online.

Carla and Lee Callakoppen, owners of Carwash at Rietvlei, said they saw a need to give back to the community, and thought it would be fitting to make sizeable donations to two organisations based in South townships.

“To all our valued clients, because of your continued support the Carwash at Rietvlei was able to make a difference in the community,” said Carla.

Lee added: “My team is like my family and they’re exceptional. I would like to also give thanks to the Lord for making all of this possible.”
